Looks like we will be blessed with theater screenings of the 1982 fantasy film, The Dark Crystal. This was one of my favorites growing up in the 80s. It tone was very dark and so many of Henson’s fantastic creatures scared the hell out of me. The movie itself did fairly well even though releasing the same time as E.T. and making $40 million on a $15 million budget. Per Forbes, each screening will come with a featurette that includes Henson’s daughter and CEO/president of The Henson Company, Lisa Henson. It will cover the making of the film and the impact it has had on pop culture.
The screening will no doubt coordinate with the 10 episode Netflix prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. The theater locations that will be playing this classic will be revealed January 12, 2018 and will play on those screens in February 25 and 28. Will you be buying a ticket? I will be there to get all those nostalgia feels!
