It’s Alive!

The juxtaposition of beauty and horror come into focus in the, It’s Alive! Horror and Sci-Fi Art exhibit. This insanely cool collection comes from Kirk Hammett. That’s right. Kirk Hammett, the guitarist for Metallica has an awesome collection of sci-fi and horror memorabilia. This amazing gift to horror, sci-fi and art fans was organized by the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.

What can you expect to experience?

The amazing collection of vintage, rare movie posters, toys, sculptures, and guitars are offset with an audio descriptive tour. This also includes an original piece of instrumental music that Hammett composed. The melody plays as the audience wanders through the display.

Hammett began acquiring his collection in the mid-80s and hasn’t stopped yet. His latest acquisition is a three-sheet poster of the 1931 Frankenstein. He describes the movie posters of the 1920s and 30s as being colorful and lush. The richness of the art giving off a romantic feeling to the viewer.

This must-see, drool-worthy collection can currently be seen at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto until January 5, 2020. Then it can be seen at the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina from February 15 – May 17, 2020.
